The Impact of Social Security Funds on Retirement Preparedness and Financial Security Evidence from Tanzania National Social Security Fund.

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate Social Security Funds in Enhancing Retirement Preparedness and Financial Security, for a Case of Tanzania’s National Social Security Fund. Specifically, the study aimed to determine how member participation, fund administration, and financial literacy influence retirement readiness. Information was collected from 251 NSSF members using designed questionnaires and then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, for example, regression analysis. The findings showed that financial knowledge was of significant importance in enhancing members' readiness for retirement, with higher knowledge in investment, saving, inflation, and pension fund management correlating with higher readiness. The effective fund management practices were also significant, delivering stable performance and economic security to the retirees. Furthermore, high membership involvement in NSSF activities, information, and decision-making was associated with continued contribution and being well equipped for retirement. Regression analysis showed that financial literacy had the greatest contribution to retirement preparedness (β = 0.555, p < 0.01), followed by member engagement (β = 0.242, p < 0.01) and fund management (β = 0.152, p < 0.01). Despite its limitations, including geographic concentration in urban areas and the use of self-reported data, the report emphasizes the significance of fund management, financial literacy, and active membership in increasing retirement readiness. The research suggests upgrading financial education interventions, strengthening fund governance, and promoting increased member participation to facilitate long-term social security and secure retirement yields.
