The Challenges Facing Own-Sources Revenue Collection Using Government Electronic Payment Gateway (Gepg) in Tanzania.

Abstract

The study investigates the challenges associated with own-source revenue collection using GePG in the RDC in the Mara region. Specifically, the study examined the training and capacity building challenges facing own-source revenue collection using GePG in RDC at Mara region; the financial and administrative challenges facing own-source revenue collection using GePG in RDC at Mara region; and explored the user acceptance and public perception challenges facing own-source revenue collection using GePG in RDC at Mara region. The research employed a structured questionnaire to gather data from 30 businessmen, 15 businesswomen, and 20 employees who were selected via purposive and simple random sampling techniques. The findings reveal several critical challenges, including training and capacity building, financial and administrative issues, user acceptance, and public perception that hinder effective revenue collection. The study concludes that these challenges significantly impede the RDC’s ability to maximize its revenue collection potential, ultimately affecting local development initiatives. To address these challenges, the study recommends enhancing infrastructural support for GePG implementation, conducting comprehensive public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on the benefits and usage of GePG, and investing in regular training programs for staff involved in own-source revenue collection. Furthermore, establishing a feedback mechanism for users can help identify and rectify issues promptly, fostering trust and increasing user engagement with the GePG platform. Implementing these recommendations could lead to improved own-sources revenue collection efficiency, ensuring that the RDC can better fund essential services and development projects.
