The Impact of Government Electronic Payment Gateway on Revenue Collection.

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to assess the impact of Government Electronic Payment Gateway on revenue collection. Other supporting objectives are (i) to assess the use of Government Electronic Payment Gateway in improving revenue collection, (ii) to measure the performance of electronic revenue collection before and after the applicability of Government Electronic Payment Gateway, and (iii) to explore the challenges of using Government Electronic Payment Gateway on revenue collection. Data were collected from 98 workers in ICT and other related departments in the Ministry of Finance and Planning. The results were analysed by using SPSS version 20, whereby a descriptive statistic was employed. The study found the mean before GePG was 2.6388 and after GePG was 3.3878 which implies that the system of revenue collection was not good before the applicability of GePG but the system improved after the applicability of Government e-Payment Gateway. All in all, the GePG, as a system of managing public finance has been experiencing the following challenges since it was started; network problem, lack of awareness, system security attack, lack of information sharing between institutions and the problem from other institutions. It is then recommended that the authority should emphasise and invest on provision of education to the public through seminars, workshop, TV sessions and other media to the public about the services provided by the system in order to increase community’s awareness of the system.
