Determinants of Supply Chain Performance for Keko Pharmaceutical Industries in Dar Es Salaam City, Tanzania.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess the SC performance determinants of Temeke Dar es Salaam city's Keko pharmaceutical industry. The study used a cross-sectional survey research design and a mixed approach. The Visual Supply Chain Model and the Economic Theory of Competition served as the study's foundations. The sample of 80 respondents, which included employees of the Keko pharmaceutical industry and a few high-profile clients, was obtained using the stratified sampling technique. Data for the study were gathered through interviews and questionnaires, which were then processed before data analysis. Descriptive statistics were employed in the study to analyze the characteristics of the respondents. Analyzing the qualitative and quantitative data also involved the use of multiple regression and content analysis. The study's findings also showed that the SC performance, as measured by stock time delivery, cost effectiveness, and appropriate storage, was positively and significantly impacted by stock velocity (stock sales, average stock, and days outstanding), raw material visibility (raw material category, raw material quality, and raw material availability), and IT (IT literacy, availability of IT devices, and acceptability of the internet). This study emphasized factors that affect SC performance in the manufacturing sector. Thus, it was recommended that manufacturing industry management should ensure that stock is well managed while applying IT in monitoring all SC activities in the industry
