Abstract

The primary objective of this study was to assess the effectiveness of employees’ motivation on job satisfaction in public organizations, using Ilala Municipal Council as a case study. The study used a quantitative research approach in which inferential statistics were used to determine findings and draw conclusions. The sample size was 97 respondents, and data was collected using a questionnaire. The data collected from relevant respondents was analyzed using a regression analysis. Employee motivation was found to have a significant relationship with the outcome variable in the study -job satisfaction. The study concluded that there was a strong relationship between employees' motivation and job satisfaction and that providing employees with incentive packages such as training, promotion, and recognition had a positive effect on employee job satisfaction. Finally, the study recommended that Ilala Municipal Council provide intrinsic and extrinsic motivation to their staff in order to increase job satisfaction; that Ilala Municipal Council management use the available incentive packages incorporated into the motivation policy to influence employees' job satisfaction; and that Ilala Municipal Council management review its motivation system in order to reflect employees' education, economic status, and employment status.
