Determinants of Health Information Systems Usability for Quality Service Delivery.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the determinants of Health Information Systems (HIS) usability at Muhimbili National Hospital. Specifically, the objectives include examining the influence of Human Factors, Organizational Factors, and Technological Factors on HIS usability. The study employed a mixed-method research design, using simple random and purposive sampling techniques to select 109 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis, while qualitative data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The study revealed that human factors significantly influence HIS usability, highlighting the importance of education and training initiatives in enhancing system usability. Organizational factors, such as the hospital’s structure, policies, and procedures, were found to play a crucial role in facilitating effective system integration and enhancing HIS usability. Positive organizational support and clear communication contributed to smoother integration and better system functionality. The study recommends enhancing training with practical applications, strengthening organizational support, investing in robust technological infrastructure, implementing user feedback mechanisms, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. These measures aim to optimize HIS utilization, improve healthcare service delivery, and achieve better patient care outcomes at MNH.
