Assessment of the Role of Motivation on Employee Retention in Higher Learning Institutions A Case of the Institute of Accountancy Arusha

Abstract

This essay examines how motivation affects staff retention at institutions of higher education, with an emphasis on the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) Dar es Salaam Campus. Since it influences operational effectiveness, productivity, and overall performance, employee retention offers a significant problem for organizations, particularly in the higher education sector (Storey, 2001). In order to retain skilled workers and provide a healthy work environment, motivation is essential. A mixed-methods research approach was employed for gathering data from personnel in various positions through survey questionnaires and interviews. The survey included Likert-scale questions to gauge employee motivation and its impact on retention. According to the research, motivation has a significant impact on worker retention at the IAA. Employees report that a lack of motivation can lead to work unhappiness and an increase in the chance of attrition. The report also indicated areas for development in the IAA's motivating plans. Recommendations from the report include implementing a comprehensive incentive structure that addresses both intrinsic and extrinsic elements. This may involve reviewing the incentive and benefits package, providing avenues for professional advancement, and fostering an environment where employees feel valued and engaged. This study adds to our understanding of the link between employee motivation and retention in higher education settings. It provides useful insights for academics and practitioners working to improve human resource management practices.
