Challenges Facing Effective Warehouse Management in Private Sectors

Abstract

The general objective of the study was to evaluate the obstacles to efficient warehouse management in the private sector, specifically as it applied to Dalsey Hillblom Lynn (DHL) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The study, in particular, densified the impact of organizational capital resources, investigated the impact of human capital resources, and identified the effect of physical capital resources on effective warehouse management. Finally, the study made recommendations for improving Dalsey Hillblom Lynn's (DHL) Dar es Salaam warehouse management. Research study adopted case study research design. A sample size of 56 respondents were selected to respond upon research questions indicated by author. Primary data were collected by using questionnaire and interviews techniques. Thereafter qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis strategy with an aid of MAXQDA software while quantitative data were analyzed through descriptive analysis technique with an aid of SPSS software. The study's findings indicated that organizational capital resources difficulties have a substantial impact on DHL's ability to run its warehouses effectively. These findings suggest that in order to increase personnel capacity and assure effective warehouse management, modifications in organizational structures, processes, and systems are required. The study adds that other ways to enhance effective warehouse management at DHL, including the optimization of picking processes, application of technology, particularly warehouse management systems, timely information to forecast demand, controlling quality, staff training, and layout improvement. The study recommended that companies particularly DHL, should consider organizational structures, systems, and processes because they have a significant impact and efficient warehouse management. The positive and significant nature of organizational capital resources' contribution to DHL's efficient warehouse management suggested that procedures and processes needed to be ensured if effective warehouse management was to be accomplished.
