Abstract

Entrepreneurship is crucial to the advancement of nations. Nevertheless, entrepreneurs cannot function in solitary confinement; they need the right atmosphere to succeed. The study intended to assess Challenges facing entrepreneurs engaged in international trade, a case of selected entrepreneur’s in Dodoma City. Descriptive research design was applied as a research design for the study. Data were collected from a sample of 100 respondents from six wards located in Dodoma City. Four methods were used in data collection namely; semi-structured interviews, questionnaire, focus group discussion and documentary review. Data were analyzed by using SPSS program version 20, summarized and presented according to the research objectives, and questions advanced in the study. Findings revealed that, most of entrepreneurs were afraid of making decisions to engage in business internationally, but also many claims to have no education on international trade, furthermore the analysis revealed that, majority of the entrepreneurs did not get any entrepreneurship training. So most of the products they sell are of very low quality so they get difficulties in exporting them abroad, For instance they do not have logos, they are not customized with the latest technology, and so you cannot sell such products abroad. Additionally, many of the respondents complained that, the interest charged by the bank is extremely high, while the repayment period is short, that is why many of them do afraid to borrow for fear of confiscation. And therefore, seek somewhere else with less complexity. The study recommends the ministry of industry and commerce to develop policies and laws that will enable entrepreneurs to trade internationally. Furthermore, the study recommended the government to identify entrepreneurial challenges and solve them so that they can trade internationally successfully, the government to establish entrepreneurial programs on capacity building to entrepreneurs in order to promote management skills among them.
