Electronic Record-Keeping and Procurement Performance

Abstract

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) grapples with substantial challenges in electronic record-keeping and procurement, causing inefficiencies, delays, and financial repercussions. These shortcomings erode transparency, accountability, and overall operational effectiveness. This study aims to identify the root causes, assess their operational impact, and propose remedies for enhanced electronic record-keeping and procurement performance within TANESCO. The primary objective was to evaluate electronic record-keeping's impact on procurement performance at TANESCO's Headquarters in Dodoma, utilizing a descriptive research design. A total of 40 respondents were chosen through simple random sampling, with key informants interviewed purposively. Data collection employed questionnaires and interviews. Quantitative data underwent analysis using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regressions, while qualitative data were subjected to thematic analysis. The findings highlight that training significantly elevates staff proficiency in electronic record-keeping, empowering them to optimize electronic tools for improved procurement performance. This expertise not only curtails procurement record expenses but also streamlines the procurement process by reducing paperwork. The study concluded that there is a strong relationship between electronic record-keeping and the performance of procurement functions in the public sector. The study recommends that the government should sustain electronic record-keeping in the public sector.
