Abstract
The study examined the impact that e-ticketing system has on revenue collection at TEMESA-Magogoni Ferry. It also assessed the trend of revenue collection by using e-ticketing system prior and after the installation and at its full utilisation period. Furthermore, it assessed the security issues pertaining to e-ticketing system and its infrastructure on the basis of customers’ satisfaction. The study employed a case study design where the sample was systematically and purposively selected from the population of passengers and Staff of Magogoni Ferry. The data that were gathered using questionnaires and those from revenue coollection archives were manipulated and analysed using Stata16.
Precisely, the study found a significant increase of the revenue collected after the installation and full utilisation of e-ticketing system and its related infrastructure compared to the revenue collected by using the manual ticketing system existed before. Moreover, was revealed that trespassing was the major obstruction based on security since it reduced optimal collection of revenue. On the other hand, passengers confirmed that queuing at the e-ticketing system wasted their time, hence they suggested improvement to the e-ticketing system and its related infrastructure to cater for the contemporary needs of the passengers. Lastly, the study suggested the use of more adanced cashless payment methods such as using bank cards and smart phone apps to increase efficiency, lower operational costs and saving customers’ time.
