Abstract

This research paper examines the effect of packaging design on the competitive advantage of grape wine firms in Dodoma, Tanzania. It explores various elements of packaging design, including color, size, shape, label, and graphics, and their effects on competitive advantages, consumers' preferences of packaging design and establish a relationship between packaging design and competitive advantage. The study involves a sample of 396 respondents from five selected wine companies in Dodoma. The results reveal that packaging design significantly affects competitive advantage, with specific preferences of dark brown color, medium-sized packaging, cylindrical with narrow neck, informative labels, and compelling graphics. The paper concludes that a strategic focus on packaging design can enhance a wine company's competitive position in the market. It also emphasizes the importance of continuous monitoring of customer preferences to adapt to changing market dynamics.
