Abstract
Most of the companies have been hesitating to implement green procurement in most of the private sector-based companies in Tanzania. In that respect, this study assessed contribution of green procurement practices on sustainable environmental management in private sector. This study was carried out at Lafargeholcim Cement Company in Mbeya using a case study design with mixed methods. A total of 75 respondents were involved in this study they were selected using convenient sampling. Data were collected using questionnaire and interview guide whereby quantitative data were analyzed using linear multiple regression method while qualitative data were analyzed by using content analysis method. Result obtained shows that supplier certification as one of the green procurement practices contributes to sustainable environmental management. The study concludes that business organizations should adhere to green procurement practices for the sustainable environmental management. The study recommends that suppliers/producers of various materials should be certified by ISO/TBS ensuring that materials supplied are compliant and friendly to environment so that high quality materials can be provided without harming the surrounding environment.
