Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the influence of savings and credit co-operative society on improving household livelihood in Tanzania Police Force URA-SACCOS. A specific objective of the study was: To assess the contribution of savings received by SACCOS to household livelihood. The study adopted a cross sectional research design and a sample of 304 SACCOS members was selected using simple random sampling whereas Key Informants (KIs) were selected purposively. Data was collected using interview and questionnaire. Quantitative data were analyzed using multiple response and binary logistic regression model. The study found that volume of savings and withdrawal processing had a positive effect on improving SACCOS members’ household livelihood. The study concludes volume of savings and withdrawal processing were important aspects in saving procedure of SACCOS contributing improving members’ household livelihood in Police Force URA-SACCOS. The study recommends that, management of Police Force URA-SACCOS should improve all aspects related to loan provision and saving deposits for the purpose of improving members’ household livelihood.
