| dc.description.abstract | As a result of climate change, Dar es Salaam has received an increased amount of rainfall that has continued to disrupt the general system of the city. One of the most affected systems is BRT. Since its establishment, the system has been affected by floods and at times leading to the suspension of its operation. Despite the available studies on the operations of the system, little is known with regards to the effect of floods and the suspension of BRT services on the people’s livelihood and resilience strategies. By the use of qualitative means, through a game simulation workshop, the study collected 60 respondents who gave their views on the effect of this situation to people’s livelihood. It is found out that the situation affects economic and social aspects including increasing costs of life and decrease in both individual and national revenue. However, others maximise their income during the same period. The uses of other informal means of transport have been used by city dwellers to cope with the situation. The study concludes that Dar es Salaam will continue to experience the situation if coordinated planning is not put at the priority | |
