The Impact of Cloud Computing on Organisations Regarding Cost and Security. A Case of Vodacom Tanzania Public Limited Company, 2020.

Abstract

Cloud computing provides many attractive services to users of the services such as usage- based pricing, ubiquitous network access, transferring of risk to the service provider and provision of on-demand self-service. It is not known whether these attractive services have resulted in positive gains in the operations of organizations using these cloud services. The paper aims at assessing the impact of cloud computing regarding cost and security within Vodacom Tanzania Public Limited Company (VTPLC). The objective of the study was achieved, where the study identified the cost risks and security benefits which organizations experience while utilizing cloud computing. Second, it was revealed that cloud computing is better for small and medium-sized organizations and that also hybrid cloud is considered as the most appropriate cloud deployment model representing a perfect balance between the sensitive data issue and cost savings. Third, avoidance of the cost risks for organizations requires developing new and more accurate cost models for a precise calculation of the costs for cloud services, as well as an increased competition on the cloud market which should be stimulated. Fourth, the security risks of Cloud Computing can be avoided through serious analysis by organizations regarding which data should be stored in the cloud, developing advanced data protection mechanisms, and improving the transparency regarding security measures taken by cloud providers. However, there is a necessity of establishing international regulatory frameworks and interoperable and security standards on a supranational level as an essential prerequisite for a secure cloud computing environment.
