Abstract
Academic excellence may be loosely defined as the demonstrated ability to perform, achieve, and/or excel in scholastic activities. There are numerous factors that contribute to achieving top level academic excellence. These include but not limited to quality of teachers or instructors; learners ability and attitude; pedagogics; teaching aids; learning material; learners family and social lives; Teaching and learning environment; and integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the teaching and learning process. Integration of ICT in the teaching and learning processes has a unique and fundamental contribution towards achieving academic excellence. Therefore, this paper attempts to examine the extent to which ICT in its broadest sense contributes in enhancing academic excellence. Specifically, the paper attempts to investigate on the various ways ICTs are being used in the education processes; effect of ICTs on the pedagogy; and the effect of ICTs on students learning and motivation for learning. It, finally, makes recommendations on how best can education stakeholders optimally make use of the opportunities offered by ICT to enhance academic excellence.
