Factors influencing Transport’s effectiveness in the Public Transport Services: A Case of Dar Es Salaam Rapid Transit, Tanzania.

Abstract

This study assesses factors influencing transport effectiveness of public transport services based on the Dar Es Salaam Bus Rapid Transit. Specifically, it determined the influence of tangibility on transport effectiveness of public transport and recommended the strategies of improving it. The study used cross sectional research design while research approach used was mixed research approach. On the other hand, convenience and purposive sampling techniques were applied to select members of sample size who were 404 respondents. In the similar case, the study used questionnaire and interview while data were analyzed using descriptive, inferential and content analysis. The findings showed that tangibility, had a significant positive association with transport effectiveness at p<0. 151.The tangibility has major influence on transport's effectiveness in public transport services in the sense that the outlook and premises of DBRT are appealing and there is modern equipment in providing services at DBRT. The study concluded that tangibility influences transport effectiveness. The study recommended management of DBRT should continue enhancing reliable services so as to maintain customer retention that will ensure transport effectiveness. Additionally, management should ensure that the outlook and premise are attractive thereby satisfying customers.
