Effects of Compliance on Documentation Procedures in Containers Cargo Handling Perfomance: A Case of Tanzania Port Authority.

Abstract

The study involves an assessment of the factors affecting container cargo handling performance the case of Tanzania port authority at Dar es salaam port container terminal. It is a quantitative study employed the cross-sectional design comprises data gathered through questionnaire while analysis done through the descriptive statistics (Mean and standard deviation scores), 5 points Likert scale and inferential statistics multiple regressions. The results indicate compliance to documentation procedure model fit statistically significant of R2 .893 (89.3%), p .000 <.05. While significant positive relationship was observed on the Easy accessibility to tax information, Availability of accurate documentation & information and collaboration with channel members. The significant negative relationship on sharing of data and negative non- significant effects on Less time-consuming in procedure and documentation. Finally, the study recommends container cargo handling stakeholders to fully utilize the One Stop Centre established, provide more technical quality trainings to improve staffs’ knowledge and skills as well as ordering more modern equipment in container handling. However, future studies needed on usage of containerized cargo handling system in transforming speed and efficiency in maritime logistics and supply chain. Also, on effects in terms of time, services time, operators’ capacity, berth utilization, service provision time (dwell time, waiting time) towards container cargo handling operations performance.
