Abstract

This study assessed how teachers apply love and logic behaviour management approach in managing pupils‟ classroom demeanor cases in primary schools. The study used a qualitative approach with the support of interviews and classroom observations. The simple random and purposive sampling techniques were used to select five primary schools and 30 class teachers from the government-owned primary schools within the Dodoma City Council. Data were thematically and quotes analyzed for research questions. Findings show that the love and logic behaviour management approach is a new approach, and its practice is still undeveloped as it is characterized by inattentiveness, punitive strategies, weak pupil-teacher relationship, and poor school mentorship programs. Besides, the findings from the reviewed literature show that the love and logic model has got stable roots in the pre-service teacher education curriculum and in- service teacher training where they learned the approach working framework in schools and successfully applied in managing pupils‟ behaviours. Applying this model would help teachers to have divergent or alternative ways of dealing with pupils' disciplinary problems in their classroom and the entire school's whole as a substitute for corporal punishment for pupils who make mistakes.
