Establishing awareness of Users on Improved Information Security In Health Institutions: A Case Study Of Muhimbili National Hospital-Mloganzila

Abstract

A hospital information system has potentials to improve the accessibility of clinical information and the quality of health care. Patient information is highly sensitive and must be kept secured and confidential. It is clear that if healthcare services will continue facing security problems due to human behaviour, the trend of data loss, confidentiality and reputation of the organization will be jeopardized. Awareness of information security is very important in that it enhances knowledge about security issues and is regularly found to influence security compliant behaviour in any given organization. This study focused on establishing the awareness of users on improved information security in health institutions, a case study of Muhimbili National Hospital - Mloganzila in Dar es Salaam region, Tanzania. This paper proposed and discusses the research framework which was developed based on Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), Contingency Theory and Integrated Systems Theory. The current study employed a mixed-method approach which includes both quantitative and qualitative research approaches for data collection, analysis and presentation.
