The Contribution of Information and Communication Technology in the Procurement Process on Construction Projects in Public Institution in Tanzania

Abstract

The study's primary objective was asses contribution of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in procurement within public construction projects and recommend actions that might be taken to increase the use of ICT in the procurement process, in procuring construction projects in public institutions. A case study design was used in the study. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentary review. The researcher employed a purposive sampling technique in obtaining 105 respondents from the field. Descriptive analysis was used to analyse preliminary data. The study findings revealed that ICT can simplify procurement procedures, automate bidding, and contract administration, increase transparency, allow for electronic payments, and offer data analytics for monitoring and reporting. ICT also improves compliance monitoring, enables stakeholder engagement and communication, and provides chances for training and capacity building. Procurement is one of the government ways of servicing its tax-pay. Being regulated need for modernization, ICT can play major role to make it effective, efficient and simple to adopt.
